So last night I was surrounded by police and in the end, taken downtown in a cop car. What did I do..you might ask? Well...I'm guilty of knocking another task off my list of things to do before I die--by riding along with a police officer. If you live in Winter Park, rest assured you reside in a very safe town, so thanks for making my night uneventful.
This is what we ran into around town: #1 Responded to a 911 hang-up call at a park where 3 kids had dialed the police and then ran. #2 Responded to the Chik-Fil-A drive thru to assist in the officer hunger prevention program (dinner). #3 Searched for stolen vehicles at hotels. #4 Pulled over a Democrat for expired registration. #5 Pulled over a BMW convertible of Rollins girls for running a stop sign (and they were cute). #6 Searched Winter Park Village for juvenile dope smoking #7 Busted an underage alcohol purchase at 7-11. #8 Responded to a theft at the Albertson's liquor store. #9 Took a crack pipe off a bicycler on the "wrong side of the tracks".
So it was an interesting experience. I gained great insight into Winter Park criminal activity (which is relatively harmless), got to hold an MP5, search criminal backgrounds on some friends, and hear some crazy stories. Perhaps the best part of the night overall was the conversation with Officer B. Watson throughout the night. While I was fully expecting a pompous officer, I was relieved to climb into the cruiser and hear contemporary Christian on his iPod, learn he was once in youth ministry, and hear him share about his family including the children he is adopting from Russia. So..it was a great experience..one that I would recommend..and take my word Winter Park residents---you are definitely safe here.
So this is where you've been hiding. You can run but you can't hide, jk. Glad you weren't arrested.
